Oracle Net8 tuning whitepaper

Todays post will be short :)

I recently found a a pretty good article by Sun about Oracle Net8 tuning, SDU/TDU parameter sizes and some test results. Here it is:

Addition:

While at it, here’s also a another good document on TCP tuning in general. Recommended reading, especially if you’re dealing with tuning database (or application access) over WAN networks.

  1. Thanks for the info but this info has been known for years.

  2. Um, so what?!

They are good papers worth reading – and I’m sure not everyone of the readers knows about them (or remembers about them).

There’s so much crap out there in internet so if you find anything valuable its worth noting, even if some other people already know about it…

  3. The paper conludes to potential for big impact using different setting SDU/TDU. But when I strickly stick to the paper findings, all combinations SDU/TDU fall in the range of 3% (with the negative exception when the SDU is set small, to 1K). The conclusion should rather be that it is not worth playing with SDU/TDU and that’s what I was used to hear about Net8 tuning.

Anyway, Nice re-reading this, for I am quite confident I already read it somewhere in the past and forget this for there is little to eat there.
